PORTULAN CLARIN is the Research Infrastructure for the Science and Technology of Language, and the Portuguese national node of the European research infrastructure CLARIN ERIC, part of the National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Relevance. Its mission is to support researchers, innovators, citizen scientists, students, language professionals and users in general whose activities depend on language science and technology, through the distribution of scientific resources, technological support, consultancy and scientific dissemination.
The infrastructure provides a repository, where resources such as corpora, lexicons and processing tools are archived and made searchable, and a workbench, where language technology tools and applications are made available online. It serves all scientific and cultural areas linked to language — from the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences to Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Health and Cultural Heritage — with a special focus on the Portuguese language in all its varieties, contributing to its technological development and its preparation for the digital age.
