MASDIMA – Multi-Agent System for Disruption Management
Brief and project description
MASDIMA is an intelligent multi-agent system designed to support airline disruption management through the real-time monitoring and resolution of operational disturbances. The project addresses unexpected events that may affect flight schedules, including disruptions involving aircraft, crew members, and passengers.
Unlike conventional optimization tools, MASDIMA adopts a holistic approach by simultaneously analysing the impact of disruptions across all operational dimensions and generating integrated recovery solutions. The system balances operational efficiency, passenger service, and resource constraints while respecting the limited time available for decision-making in airline control centres.
The project combines Artificial Intelligence, multi-agent systems, machine learning, and autonomous decision-making technologies to create a distributed environment capable of coordinating complex recovery processes. By replacing and automating several operational control functions, MASDIMA enhances responsiveness, improves solution quality, and supports more resilient airline operations.
A key contribution of the project is the development of intelligent agents capable of learning from operational data and collaborating to produce adaptive recovery plans. This enables airlines to reduce operational costs, minimize delays and disruptions, and improve overall service performance.
By advancing the application of autonomous and explainable AI in transportation systems, MASDIMA contributes to the digital transformation of airline operations and the development of next-generation decision-support systems.
